PNP Warns Public Against Dangerous ‘Tuklaw’ Cigarettes

Published: August 15, 2025

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued a warning to the public over the use of “tuklaw,” a type of black cigarette linked to severe health risks, including seizures.

PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre II said samples of the product have been sent to the PNP Crime Laboratory for analysis, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), and the Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG).

According to Torre, there is strong reason to classify “tuklaw” as an illegal substance, citing its hazardous effects that could lead to accidents and other health emergencies.

The PNP has already apprehended several individuals in connection with the sale and distribution of the product. Authorities are now tracing its sources as part of their ongoing investigation.

Officials reminded the public to stay vigilant and avoid using unverified substances that could pose serious threats to health and safety.
