KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN (8/22/2025)– A Taiwanese soldier, identified only as Zeng, has been sentenced to two years in prison for exploiting a minor, Xiao Qiao (pseudonym), whom he met on Instagram. The incident, which took place between May and June 2021, culminated in Zeng’s conviction for s@xual trafficking and other offenses. The case is still subject to appeal.
According to court documents, Zeng and Xiao Qiao, a minor under the age of 18, connected through Instagram. Their relationship evolved from online interactions to a physical encounter, during which Zeng subjected Xiao Qiao to coercive sexual acts. The court found that Zeng pressured Xiao Qiao to engage in s@xual activity at a hotel. Further, the court determined that Zeng engaged in degrading behavior by writing obscene words on Xiao Qiao’s body and recording the encounter with his mobile phone, subsequently distributing the video to others. The court also noted that Zeng demanded Xiao Qiao address him as “Master,” further highlighting the power imbalance and coercive nature of the relationship.
The verdict underscored the severity of Zeng’s actions, emphasizing the exploitation of a vulnerable minor. While the two-year sentence is a significant consequence, the possibility of an appeal suggests ongoing legal proceedings.
The case highlights the potential dangers of online interactions, particularly for minors, and underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from sexual exploitation.
