Starting August, passengers should expect higher airfare as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announces an increase in fuel surcharge rates for both domestic and international flights.
According to CAB, the surcharge will be raised from Level 3 (record low in July) to Level 4, in response to the rising operational challenges faced by airlines, especially during the rainy season when travel demand weakens.
Under Level 4, passengers flying domestically may incur an additional fee ranging from ₱117 to ₱342, depending on flight distance. For international travelers, the surcharge will range from ₱385.70 to ₱2,867.82, also based on the travel distance and destination.
CAB explained that the fuel surcharge hike is meant to help airlines offset increased operational costs and maintain stable service levels despite reduced travel demand due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Passengers planning to book flights for August are advised to consider the upcoming price adjustment when budgeting for travel.
