TAIWAN – July 5, 2025 — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued an instant heavy thunderstorm warning for parts of central and southern Taiwan due to the outer circulation of Typhoon Danas and the intense development of afternoon convective cloud systems.
As of early afternoon, Tainan City, Changhua County, Chiayi City, Yunlin County, Nantou County, and Chiayi County have been placed under weather advisories that are expected to remain in effect until 3:30 p.m. today.
Safety Measures Urged Amid Flash Flood Risk
The CWA is urging the public to take extra precautions, particularly in low-lying areas. Residents and commuters should be alert for sudden heavy downpours, lightning strikes, and the rapid rise of streams and rivers, which could lead to flash floods and reduced visibility.
Authorities advise people in affected areas to avoid outdoor activities in mountainous regions and to secure outdoor belongings. Motorists are also reminded to drive cautiously due to possible flooding and poor visibility on the roads.
Regional Weather Outlook
In its broader forecast, the Meteorological Bureau reported that the southeastern region and the Hengchun Peninsula are likely to experience local short-term showers or thunderstorms, with a high chance of localized heavy rainfall.
Scattered short-term showers are also expected in the north coast of Keelung, the northeastern region, and Penghu. Meanwhile, Kinmen, Matsu, and most other areas of Taiwan can expect cloudy to sunny skies, although afternoon thunderstorms may still occur in some locations—particularly in the central and southern regions, where isolated heavy rain is possible.
Typhoon Danas Update
Typhoon Danas, the fourth named storm of the season, continues to move toward the Taiwan Strait. While it is not expected to make direct landfall at this time, its outer rain bands are already influencing Taiwan’s weather patterns, particularly in the south and center of the island.
The CWA will continue to monitor the typhoon’s progress closely and may issue additional warnings if necessary. Citizens are advised to stay updated through official weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
