CHIAYI, TAIWAN — In preparation for the onslaught of Typhoon Danas, the Chiayi County Government announced on the evening of July 5 that all work and classes will be suspended on Saturday, July 6, following the latest weather forecast issued by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The forecast indicates that wind levels in the county have reached the official threshold for class and work suspension.
To ensure public safety, Chiayi County officials activated a Level 3 Disaster Response Center at 12:00 noon today. Fire department personnel were the first to mobilize, with all other disaster response units directed to establish emergency teams in anticipation of the storm.
Authorities also designated coastal areas — including Dongshi Township, Budai Town, Yizhu Township, and various commercial and fishing ports — as high-risk zones. Residents and tourists are strongly advised not to enter these areas due to the danger posed by strong winds and rising tides.
In the mountainous regions, the Highway Bureau has closed the section of Taiwan Highway 3 between the 295 km and 336 km markers (Yunshui to Dapu) due to the high risk of landslides and falling rocks. A reassessment will be conducted at 8:00 a.m. on July 6 to determine if the section can be reopened safely.
Meanwhile, the Alishan Forest Railway has suspended all operations from July 5 to July 8. In addition, the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area will be closed starting 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, including all its nature trails, as a precautionary measure.
County officials are closely monitoring Typhoon Danas and have urged the public to stay informed through official announcements. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides, and to take all necessary safety precautions.
