Taipei, July 19, 2025 — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a heavy rain warning across various parts of Taiwan as the outer circulation of Typhoon Wipha brings unstable weather conditions, triggering short bursts of intense rainfall throughout the island.
According to the CWA, mountainous areas in Hualien County, Taitung County, and Pingtung County are at high risk for heavy to torrential rain. Similar conditions are expected in the Hengchun Peninsula, the highlands of Yilan and Nantou Counties, and the mountainous zones of Kaohsiung City.
Elsewhere, the northern coast of Keelung, Lanyu, Green Island, and the elevated areas of New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Taichung may also experience heavy localized downpours throughout the day.
Authorities are urging the public to take precautions against sudden flash floods, lightning strikes, and strong wind gusts. People in mountainous regions are particularly advised to watch for landslides, falling rocks, and mudslides, while residents in low-lying communities should remain alert for possible flooding.
The rainfall advisory is in effect until this evening. Citizens are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow safety guidelines, especially in affected areas.
Typhoon Wipha, the sixth tropical system to form this year, continues to influence Taiwan’s weather as it moves northwest, drawing in moisture and destabilizing local atmospheric conditions.
