DMW Extends Ongoing Support to OFWs in Israel; One Filipina Caregiver Dies from Missile Attack Injuries

Manila, Philippines —
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reported that the Rapid Response Team (RRT), which arrived in Israel on July 7, has since been actively providing emergency assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by the ongoing conflict. This includes the distribution of financial aid and support to those hospitalized or whose homes were damaged by the war.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed the team’s continued efforts on the ground, emphasizing that the agency is prioritizing the welfare and safety of OFWs amid heightened tensions in the region. Before the RRT’s deployment, 188 Filipino workers had already received aid, bringing the total number of OFWs assisted to 870.

“We feel they have adjusted to the situation here, but, of course, psychosocial counseling on a regular basis is imperative,” said DMW-National Capital Region Director Falconi Millar, underlining the importance of sustained mental health support for affected workers.

Tragically, the DMW also reported the death of a Filipina caregiver on July 13. She succumbed to injuries sustained during an Iranian missile attack after undergoing multiple surgeries. Her passing underscores the increasing danger faced by Filipino workers in conflict zones.

In light of the ongoing hostilities, the DMW reiterated that Alert Level 2 remains in place for both Israel and Iran, meaning voluntary repatriation continues to be encouraged for those who wish to return home.

Earlier this month, the second batch of OFW repatriates from Israel—comprising eight Filipino caregivers—arrived safely at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on the evening of July 4. The DMW continues to coordinate closely with Philippine embassies and consulates to monitor the situation and facilitate further repatriation efforts as needed.
