September 16, 2025 — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Metro Manila 3rd District Engineering Office denied allegations circulating online regarding the supposed reduction of the contract cost for a road and drainage rehabilitation project in Valenzuela City.
A photo of a project billboard along Kaypandan Street, Barangay Canumay West, went viral after showing the contract cost as having dropped from ₱48 million to ₱28 million.
In a statement sent to Valenzuela City 1st District Representative Kenneth Gatchalian, the DPWH clarified that the actual contract cost has always been ₱28,884,243.84.
“It is being informed that the original contract cost of the said project is ₱28,884,243.84 only,” the agency explained.
They further assured the public that the discrepancy was due to a clerical error in the details posted on the billboard.
“It is being assured that the posted erroneous detail in the DPWH Project Billboard at the site is purely clerical mistake and will be corrected accordingly,” the statement added.
The DPWH emphasized that the project’s approved budget remains unchanged and that the error will be immediately rectified to prevent further confusion.
