Miaoli County, Sept. 14, 2025 — A man and two Vietnamese migrant workers were caught illegally dumping eggshells in Tongxiao Township, sparking concerns over repeated waste violations in the area.
According to police, the group drove a pickup truck from Taipei to an open space under the National Highway 3 overpass in Neihu Village. Before the dumping, the man stopped at a convenience store near the Tongxiao Interchange, while the two workers unloaded the eggshells near the Neihu River Bridge. They were discovered by Tongxiao Township Deputy Miao Zonghan, Weng Yingxiong, and Neihu Village Chief Lin Huiquan, who reported the case to authorities.
When confronted, the man insisted he had no knowledge of the dumping, claiming he was only taking a coffee break. He argued that eggshells were not waste, but rather could be used as fertilizer. Despite his defense, police transferred all three individuals for violating the Waste Disposal Act.
Deputy Miao noted that Tongxiao has long struggled with illegal dumping of eggshell waste, leaving residents to endure persistent foul odors. He praised the vigilance of the citizen who reported the case, which finally allowed officials to catch violators in the act.
Authorities are now investigating whether the incident is tied to a larger operation. Police also revealed that the pickup truck involved has been tracked traveling to the same area multiple times, carrying eggshells from various food companies.
