Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision on Taiwan Boulevard Leaves One Dead

TAICHUNG, Taiwan – August 23, 2025 – A tragic road accident in Taichung claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Saturday morning after a series of collisions involving multiple vehicles along Taiwan Boulevard.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. when a 21-year-old driver, identified by his surname Wang (王), was traveling in a Toyota sedan along the slow lane toward Shalu. As he approached the Anhe intersection, Wang allegedly struck a 28-year-old motorcyclist surnamed Sun (孫), who was waiting to make a turn.

The impact propelled Wang’s vehicle forward, where it collided with two other cars—a BMW driven by a 56-year-old man surnamed Lai (賴) and a Mercedes-Benz operated by a 59-year-old man surnamed Zhan (詹)—both attempting to turn left onto Taiwan Boulevard from Anhe Road.

Police said no drugs or alcohol were detected in Wang’s system, and his breathalyzer test showed zero blood alcohol concentration. Initial findings indicate that Wang may have run a red light, leading to the crash.

Sun was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have launched a manslaughter investigation, and prosecutors are expected to order an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
