A dramatic fire broke out shortly after midnight today (July 24) at a garage located along Ting Kok Road near Yu Kok Village in Tai Po, Hong Kong. Residents were jolted by an explosion and thick smoke rising from the site, prompting numerous emergency calls.
According to reports, the blaze ignited within a 20-foot container used as a garage and tool storage facility in an open-air parking lot. While not part of the nearby Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) depot, the lot is situated close to it.
Firefighters quickly responded to the incident, dousing the flames and working to prevent further spread. A worker on site expressed concern over the presence of a charcoal cylinder inside the garage, fearing it might explode and intensify the fire.
Online footage captured the dramatic scene, with flames visible from a distance and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky. Over a dozen nearby residents evacuated the area as a safety precaution and sought temporary shelter in an open space.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire.
