TAIPEI — July 28, 2025 — Torrential downpours battered central and southern Taiwan on Monday, prompting widespread flooding, travel disruptions, and the suspension of classes in numerous areas.
At 4:35 p.m., the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a heavy rain advisory covering 17 counties and cities. The agency warned that the effects of the downpour are expected to persist through the evening of Tuesday, July 29.
The intense rainfall led to waterlogging in urban areas and caused concerns over landslides and overflowing rivers in mountainous regions. In response, several local governments have preemptively declared a suspension of classes for Tuesday, citing that accumulated rainfall has reached thresholds requiring precautionary measures.
Authorities advised the public to remain alert and avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are also urged to follow updates from official channels and local emergency units, as more announcements regarding school and work suspensions may follow.
The United News Network and other local media will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates.
Public Advisory: Stay tuned to official government alerts and weather bulletins, especially in areas identified as at risk for flash floods and landslides.
