House prosecutor and Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua criticized the Senate’s actions during their plenary session on Wednesday, August 6, regarding the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to Chua, the motion for reconsideration filed by the House remains pending before the Supreme Court, which is why he insists the matter is far from over. “Hindi tayo magpapatinag sa ating hangaring itaguyod ang hustisya at pananagutan,” he said.
He also condemned the move by most senators, claiming it deprived the public of due process amid growing calls for accountability. “Ang hakbang ng nakararaming senador ngayong araw ay pagkakait ng due process sa taumbayang humihiyaw ng pananagutan,” Chua added.
Tensions continue to rise among lawmakers as the Supreme Court’s decision on the fate of the impeachment complaint against the vice president is awaited.
