Senator Imee Marcos took a swipe at the House of Representatives on Wednesday as she cast her vote in favor of archiving the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a sharp statement, Marcos called on lawmakers not to tolerate what she described as a “spoiled brat” behavior, referring to the political motivations behind the complaint. “Huwag kunsintihin ang spoiled na bondying,” she said during the Senate session.
Instead of focusing efforts on removing a duly elected official, she challenged members of the House to look inward. “Why not replace Speaker Martin Romualdez, whom they themselves elected, instead of trying to oust someone chosen by the people?” Marcos asked.
Senator Marcos and Speaker Romualdez are known relatives, both part of the influential Marcos political clan.
Her remarks added to the intensifying political drama surrounding the impeachment issue, which the Senate ultimately voted to archive amid a pending motion for reconsideration before the Supreme Court.
