Kaohsiung Woman Found Dead at Home; Boyfriend Involved in Hospital Incident Detained

Kaohsiung – August 30 – A residential community in Kaohsiung City was rattled this morning after a 54-year-old woman, surnamed Guo, was discovered lifeless inside her home. Authorities are investigating the case as suspicious, as her younger boyfriend, surnamed Zhang, had earlier been arrested following a violent outburst at a hospital.

According to police, Zhang, 43, appeared at E-DA Hospital in Yanchao District around 5 a.m. and smashed the facility’s glass entrance with a brick. When a security guard attempted to intervene, Zhang attacked him and was subdued until officers from the Gangshan Precinct arrived and took him into custody.

Later, relatives who had been notified of Zhang’s arrest tried to contact Ms. Guo but received no response. Concerned, Zhang’s sister went to the couple’s residence on Ziyou Road in Da Community. Inside, she found Guo lying in bed with a darkened face and bloodstains on her clothing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Renwu Police Station quickly cordoned off the apartment. While there were no clear signs of a struggle, Guo’s body showed discoloration and swelling, suggesting she had been dead for two to three days. Drops of blood on her clothing raised further suspicion. Police have not ruled out homicide, particularly given the couple’s age-gap relationship and recent conflicts.

The victim’s family has remained discreet but is assisting in the investigation. Authorities will transfer the body to Kaohsiung City Funeral Home for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, Zhang, who remains emotionally unstable and incoherent, has been placed under hospital care while the District Prosecutor’s Office continues to direct the inquiry.

Police emphasized that the connection between Zhang’s hospital rampage and Guo’s death remains unclear and requires further investigation.
