Kindergarten Teacher in Miaoli Fired After Caught Slapping Child, Sparks Outrage Online

A kindergarten in Zhunan Township, Miaoli County is under fire after a video showing a female teacher violently slapping a four-year-old child circulated online, drawing widespread condemnation. The incident, which has sparked intense debate and public concern, has led to the immediate dismissal of the teacher involved.

The disturbing footage emerged late Monday, prompting a wave of criticism on social media. Many questioned the school’s motives, asking, “Would there have been any action or apology if the video hadn’t gone viral?”

In response, the kindergarten issued a public statement acknowledging the seriousness of the incident. “Following parental feedback and an internal investigation, it was confirmed that a teacher surnamed Gan engaged in inappropriate corporal punishment during class,” the statement read. “This behavior gravely violates professional ethics and child protection laws.”

The school confirmed that the teacher’s employment was immediately terminated. Authorities, including the local Education Department, were notified in accordance with the Child and Youth Welfare and Rights Protection Act. The school also expressed a formal apology to the child’s family and has offered psychological support services.

“We are ashamed and saddened by the impact this incident has had,” the statement continued. “This incident reveals weaknesses in our internal oversight and staff management that must be addressed.”

To prevent similar cases in the future, the kindergarten has pledged to implement several reforms:

  1. A comprehensive review of staff hiring and evaluation procedures.

  2. Enhanced supervision and classroom monitoring mechanisms.

  3. Regular training on children’s rights and emotional management for all employees.

  4. Parent seminars to improve communication and transparency.

The institution concluded its statement by asking the public for a chance to “correct our mistakes and rebuild trust.” It added, “We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment, and we welcome continued public oversight.”

The case is now being investigated by child protection authorities and local police.
