Manila (September 27, 2025) – Bacolod Representative Albee Benitez has raised the possibility of dissolving the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address persistent and systemic corruption within the agency.
Benitez emphasized that it is the responsibility of Congress to enact laws with “teeth” to effectively combat government corruption.
“Would top-to-bottom reforms work, or have we reached a point where the continued existence of the agency is untenable, and we must dismantle and replace it altogether?” he questioned in a statement.
The remarks come amid allegations of irregularities in flood control projects involving prominent lawmakers, including former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Appropriations Committee Chairperson Zaldy Co. Both have denied any wrongdoing.
