Taipei, July 7 — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan at 8:01 p.m. on Monday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported.
According to the CWA, the earthquake’s epicenter was located in Nan’ao Township, approximately 19.2 kilometers south of Yilan County Hall, with a depth of 62.5 kilometers beneath the surface.
No immediate damage or casualties have been reported following the quake.
The strongest seismic intensity recorded was level 3 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale, observed in Nan’ao and Zhudong Township in Hsinchu County. Level 2 shaking was felt across a wider area, including Hualien County, Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City and County, Miaoli County, and the mountainous regions of Taichung and Nantou, as well as Changhua County.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though no aftershocks or disruptions have been reported as of press time.
