Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Jolts Calayan, Cagayan Saturday Morning

Calayan, Cagayan – July 19, 2025 — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Calayan in Cagayan province on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quake occurred at 9:34 a.m. with its epicenter located at 19.13°N, 121.33°E, approximately 13 kilometers northeast of Dalupiri Island. PHIVOLCS reported that the earthquake had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

Although the tremor was relatively strong, PHIVOLCS recorded Intensity I in Claveria, Cagayan, indicating very minimal ground shaking that was felt only by a few under favorable conditions.

Authorities have not issued any tsunami warnings or reported any damage or injuries related to the quake as of this time. Residents in nearby areas are advised to stay alert and follow updates from official channels.

PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the area for possible aftershocks.
