Malacañang reiterated its firm stance that gambling of any form is strictly prohibited for government officials.
According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, public servants are already expected to know this rule, and reminders should no longer be necessary. She stressed that officials must uphold integrity, noting that good conduct is part of their responsibility to the people.
The statement came after former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan District Engineer Henry Alcantara admitted to entering casinos using an alias and a fake identification card.
Castro explained that Alcantara may face administrative or even criminal charges under Republic Act 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. However, she emphasized that the matter will ultimately be handled by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, under whose jurisdiction the case falls.
