Malacañang to Government Agencies, LGUs, and Private Sector: Unite in Defending Philippine Sovereignty

Malacañang is urging all government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and the private sector to support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to raise national awareness of the Philippines as a maritime and archipelagic nation.

The call follows the issuance of Memorandum Circular No. 87 by the Office of the President, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin. The circular seeks to encourage inter-agency collaboration in promoting the country’s maritime identity and safeguarding its maritime domain.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that recognizing and promoting the Philippines as a maritime and archipelagic state is essential to national development and security.

“It is only right that we strengthen our identity as a maritime nation and protect our sovereign rights, especially against external threats to our territorial integrity,” Castro said.

She also called on the public to unite and show pride in being pro-Philippines amid ongoing maritime challenges, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.

The memorandum aims to mobilize cooperation among agencies in advancing awareness and programs that support the development, security, and protection of the country’s vast maritime resources.

Through this directive, the government hopes to foster a deeper understanding of the Philippines’ geographical and strategic position, and to enhance its role in regional maritime affairs.
