Pingtung City, Taiwan – A tragic domestic incident shocked residents of Pingtung City on Thursday morning after a man allegedly killed his wife before attempting to take his own life.
According to police reports, the 62-year-old suspect surnamed Xue is believed to have fatally stabbed his 58-year-old wife, surnamed Lu, using a fruit knife inside their home on Gongxing Road. After the attack, Xue reportedly turned the knife on himself, inflicting multiple wounds on his neck and wrists.
The couple’s eldest daughter, who lives outside Pingtung, noticed unusual activity on the family’s home surveillance system. She reportedly heard her mother scream but couldn’t see anything on the screen. After receiving no response to phone calls, she rushed home and discovered both of her parents lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. She immediately called for emergency assistance.
Emergency services arrived shortly after. Lu showed no signs of life and was later declared dead at the National Military Hospital. Xue was found critically injured and remains in a coma at the Pingtung Veterans General Hospital.
Investigators noted that Lu had visible stab wounds to her left chest. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Xue’s condition is still being closely monitored by hospital staff.
Neighbors expressed shock and disbelief, describing the couple as friendly and well-liked. Lu was known to volunteer at a local elementary school and health clinic, while Xue ran a business specializing in computer automation and control systems. The couple had three children — two daughters and a son — all of whom live away from home, though the son occasionally stayed with them.
One neighbor recalled seeing Xue behaving unusually the night before the incident, noting that he didn’t greet anyone as he usually did. Others confirmed that Xue had been mentally unstable in recent months and had expressed paranoid thoughts, suspecting people were trying to harm or scam his wife.
Police have ruled out any connection to fraud and confirmed that there were no prior reports or records of domestic violence involving the couple. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the crime. Meanwhile, local authorities have activated domestic violence protocols and requested social welfare services to provide support to the affected family.
The case remains under investigation.
