Man Falls from 6th Floor in Linkou After Attempting to Secure Air Conditioner Unit

New Taipei City – July 5, 2025 — A 67-year-old man surnamed Lu suffered a serious fall from the sixth floor of his apartment in Linkou District, New Taipei City, in a shocking accident that occurred while he was trying to prevent an air-conditioning unit from falling.

The incident took place at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Zhongshan Road. According to police reports, Mr. Lu had hired a team of air-conditioning technicians to install a new unit at his residence earlier in the day. During the installation, the outdoor condenser unit—mounted on the exterior wall—reportedly became unstable and appeared to be on the verge of falling.

In a desperate attempt to prevent the unit from crashing to the ground, Lu reached out with his bare hands to hold it in place. Tragically, the force of the falling unit, combined with its weight and gravitational pull, caused Lu to lose balance and plunge from the sixth floor to the ground below.

Immediate Medical Response

Emergency medical personnel rushed to the scene and discovered that Lu had no pulse or heartbeat upon arrival. He was immediately transported to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where medical staff were able to revive his vital signs through emergency treatment. He remains hospitalized and under close observation.

Police Investigation Underway

The Linkou Police Precinct confirmed that three air-conditioning workers who were present at the time of the incident have been summoned for questioning. Authorities are now investigating whether there was any negligence in the installation process, particularly regarding the secure mounting of the outdoor unit.

The police stated that the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and they are working to determine whether safety protocols were followed during the installation.

Safety Concerns Highlighted

This incident has raised concerns over building maintenance safety, especially in high-rise residential areas. Residents and contractors alike are urged to follow strict safety standards when performing installations that involve heavy or elevated equipment to avoid such tragic accidents.
