Manila Placed Under State of Calamity Due to Successive Storms and Widespread Flooding

MANILA, Philippines — The City of Manila has been officially placed under a state of calamity following the approval of a resolution by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) in response to the severe impacts of continuous heavy rains and widespread flooding caused by Tropical Storm Crising, Tropical Storm Dante, and the southwest monsoon (habagat).

The resolution, approved on July 23, 2025, aims to facilitate quicker and more efficient delivery of aid and disaster response services to affected communities throughout the city.

The Manila City Government expressed its gratitude to Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, Majority Floor Leader Councilor Mon Yupangco, and all members of the Manila City Council for their prompt action and support.

“With this declaration, barangays and city departments will be able to expedite the provision of assistance to residents affected by the storms and flooding,” the city government stated in its official announcement.

Thousands of families across various districts in Manila have been affected by rising floodwaters brought by days of torrential rains. The state of calamity declaration enables the local government to mobilize emergency funds, distribute relief goods more swiftly, and implement urgent repair of damaged infrastructure.

Local officials are also reminding residents to remain vigilant and to monitor official announcements for weather updates and safety advisories.
