Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto expressed disappointment on Wednesday after the Senate rejected his motion to suspend voting on the move to archive the impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sotto argued that the chamber should have waited for the Supreme Court’s final ruling, especially since a motion for reconsideration is still pending before the high court. He stressed that proceeding with the archiving would prematurely end the case.
“I know for a fact, once it is archived, it is dead,” Sotto said, emphasizing the finality of the action.
According to the veteran lawmaker, the Supreme Court’s earlier decision declaring the impeachment complaint unconstitutional was flawed. He said this moment could have served as an opportunity to correct those errors, not just for the current case but for future impeachment proceedings as well.
Despite his objections, the Senate pushed through with the vote, and the motion to archive the case was approved.
