Migrant Worker Gives Birth in Restroom, Taichung Firefighters Rush to the Rescue

Taichung City, Taiwan — September 14, 2025 — A migrant worker in Shengang District, Taichung, unexpectedly gave birth while using a restroom, prompting an urgent response from local emergency services.

The Taichung City Fire Department reported that upon receiving the distress call, firefighters Jian Yongcheng and Chen Weiming, along with veteran volunteer firefighter Song Qingtan, rushed to the scene. They immediately assessed the condition of both the mother and the newborn. After confirming that their vital signs were stable, paramedics safely transferred them to a nearby hospital. Both mother and baby girl are now in good health.

Volunteer firefighter Song Qingtan, who has served with the Shengang Fire Brigade for 11 years, admitted that this was his first time assisting in an emergency childbirth. Despite the pressure, he calmly and successfully completed the delivery.

The Shengang Fire Brigade praised Song’s composure, professional judgment, and compassionate handling of the situation, highlighting the importance of preparedness and humanitarian care in emergency rescue missions.
