NEW TAIPEI CITY — July 22, 2025 —
Starting August 1, commuters using the New Taipei Metro Circular Line can expect shorter waiting times, increased train frequency, and a more predictable travel schedule as part of a major operational upgrade announced by the New Taipei Metro Company.
To enhance commuting efficiency and improve service quality, the metro operator revealed that peak-hour intervals will be shortened to under 5 minutes, while off-peak intervals will be cut by 25%. This adjustment will significantly increase daily capacity and improve the overall passenger experience.
Improved Frequency and Capacity
Under the new timetable:
-
Weekday peak hours (7:00–9:00 AM and 5:00–7:30 PM) will see train intervals reduced from 5 minutes and 30 seconds to 4 minutes and 50 seconds.
-
Off-peak periods (9:00 AM–5:00 PM weekdays and 10:00 AM–6:00 PM on holidays) will see intervals decrease from 10 minutes to 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
-
Late evening off-peak intervals will remain at 10 minutes.
These changes will cut the average system-wide wait time from 4 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes and 50 seconds, a 17.4% improvement, and increase weekday trips from 283 to 329 — up 16.3%. On holidays, trips will rise from 229 to 271, marking an 18.3% increase.
First Published Timetable for Medium-Capacity System
In a first for Taiwan’s medium-capacity transit systems, New Taipei Metro will also launch an official, publicly available train timetable, enabling passengers to check specific train departure times at every station.
Timetables will be displayed on platform screens, station gates, and the official website, with QR codes posted inside trains and on platforms for easy access. However, in weather-affected scenarios like heavy rain, adjustments may be made to ensure safety.
Ankeng Light Rail Integration
The Ankeng Light Rail will also adjust its schedule to synchronize better with the Circular Line, reducing transfer wait times even though its frequency will remain unchanged. This aims to provide smoother transfers and a more cohesive network experience for riders crossing between systems.
Ongoing Adjustments Based on Demand
New Taipei Metro emphasized its commitment to continually monitor passenger flow and feedback to make further adjustments as needed. The operator aims to deliver faster, smarter, and more reliable service to meet the evolving demands of daily commuters.
