No DNA Match Yet in Taal Lake Bones Linked to Missing ‘Sabungeros’ – PNP Forensic Group

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Forensic Group confirmed that none of the bone fragments recovered from Taal Lake have matched the DNA samples submitted by the families of the missing cockfighting enthusiasts.

PNP Forensic Group Director Police Brig. Gen. Danilo Bacas made the disclosure during a House Committee on Human Rights hearing, in response to a query from Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro.

According to Bacas, only 29 out of the 34 families of the desaparecidos have so far provided DNA samples for comparison. However, test results showed that none of the submitted samples matched any of the remains recovered.

Of the 163 human bones examined, Bacas said laboratory findings have been released for 45 specimens. Still, none of them corresponded to the DNA of the families of the missing individuals.

The PNP official assured lawmakers and the families that forensic examinations are still ongoing, with hopes of finding clearer leads in the continuing investigation.
