Palace Urges Public to Respect SC Ruling on VP Sara Impeachment

MANILA, Philippines — The Palace has called on the public to respect the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte as unconstitutional.

In a statement issued by Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro, the administration emphasized the importance of trusting the country’s democratic institutions.

“We urge everyone to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court and to continue placing trust in the institutions of government,” Castro said, following the high court’s announcement.

She further noted that the impeachment process falls under the purview of both the legislative and judicial branches, and underscored the need to respect their independence.

“The impeachment process is a matter handled by the legislative and judicial branches, and we recognize their independence in carrying out their constitutional mandates,” she added.

The Supreme Court earlier ruled that the complaint filed against Vice President Duterte violated constitutional provisions, including the one-year rule on filing impeachment complaints and the observance of due process.

While the ruling has drawn mixed reactions from lawmakers and various sectors, the Palace maintained that the rule of law and the integrity of the judicial process must prevail.
