Taipei, September 18, 2025 — A controversial physician, Dr. Ding Binhuang, is once again facing legal trouble after a patient died following a cosmetic procedure he performed. Prosecutors said that on September 17, Dr. Ding carried out a penile enlargement surgery on a man surnamed Jian, but the patient later lost vital signs and was pronounced dead.
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office filed charges of negligent homicide and initially set bail at NT$1 million. However, Ding claimed financial difficulties and failed to raise the amount. Prosecutors reduced his bail twice, first to NT$500,000 and later to NT$200,000, allowing him to post bail and be released early in the morning of September 18. He is barred from leaving Taiwan or traveling overseas by sea while the investigation continues.
Timeline of the Incident
Authorities reported that Jian paid around NT$400,000 for the surgery, which began at 10 a.m. and lasted roughly four hours. Later that evening, at around 7 p.m., Jian suddenly stopped breathing and lost his heartbeat. The clinic staff immediately called emergency services, but paramedics confirmed that the patient showed no signs of life upon arrival.
Police quickly detained Dr. Ding and secured evidence at the scene. During questioning, Ding maintained that the procedure had been conducted according to medical standards and that he was unaware of the patient’s condition during anesthesia recovery.
History of Controversy
This is not the first time Dr. Ding has been implicated in a fatal case. More than a decade ago, a patient also died under his care following a similar procedure. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous disputes related to cosmetic surgeries, including breast augmentation cases. Reports indicate that Ding has repeatedly changed the name of his clinic and even altered his own name to avoid scrutiny.
The latest death has reignited public debate over medical safety, unregulated cosmetic surgeries, and whether stricter oversight should be imposed on repeat offenders in the medical field.
