PISTON to Stage Nationwide Transport Strike Over DPWH Corruption Allegations
The transport group PISTON announced on Sunday that it will stage a nationwide transport strike on Thursday, September 18, to protest alleged corruption involving flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
According to PISTON, the strike—which will begin at 5 a.m.—seeks to hold government officials and contractors accountable for the supposed misuse of taxpayers’ money. The group stressed that the public should join their call, saying the alleged irregularities affect every Filipino.
The announcement came after recent protests from various organizations demanding transparency and accountability in infrastructure spending.
Malacañang, for its part, reiterated on Saturday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. upholds freedom of expression, recognizing the right of groups to stage demonstrations regarding concerns over flood control projects.
PISTON said it would continue to push for action until those responsible for the alleged anomalies are made answerable.
