PNP Chief Hits DDS for Spreading Old Crime Video to Discredit Current Administration

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Monday criticized members of the Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) for allegedly circulating an old crime video to mislead the public and discredit the current administration.

Speaking at a press conference on July 21, Torre referred to a viral social media video showing a supposed Chinese national being killed and dumped in Kawit, Cavite. Torre clarified that the incident actually occurred in 2022, during the Duterte administration, yet the video is now being shared as if it were a recent case.

“They can’t seem to find anything as bad now as what happened during their time,” Torre said in Filipino.

According to the PNP chief, the re-circulation of the video appears to be a deliberate attempt to spread fear and create the impression that peace and order are deteriorating under the Marcos administration. He emphasized that the public should not be misled by old incidents presented out of context.

Who Are the DDS?

The Duterte Diehard Supporters, or DDS, are known for being a vocal support base of former President Rodrigo Duterte. They are highly active on social media and often defend Duterte’s policies while criticizing his political opponents and those allied with the current administration.

In recent months, tensions have escalated between supporters of the former administration and the Marcos Jr. government, particularly around issues of crime, peace, and the growing spread of misinformation online.

Torre urged the public to be discerning and not fall for deceptive tactics that recycle outdated information to sow public distrust.
