Possible Tropical System May Develop Near the Philippines After August 10

August 4, 2025 – Taipei

Weather experts are keeping a close eye on the western Pacific, where another tropical system could develop later this week.

According to weather updates, there are currently two active typhoons in the northwestern Pacific—Typhoon Krosa, located northeast of Tokyo, and Typhoon Bailu, which formed yesterday southeast of Tokyo. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) confirmed that neither typhoon is expected to affect Taiwan.

The weather page “Watch Weather and Forecast” reported that southwesterly winds are expected to weaken today, though moisture levels remain high. By August 5, the winds will gradually move northward and weaken further, causing rain to ease. From August 6 to 10, a subtropical high-pressure system is forecast to expand and cover Taiwan, bringing more stable and dry weather to most parts of the country.

However, starting later this week, attention may shift to a new weather development. The area stretching from the South China Sea to waters east of the Philippines is expected to become a low-pressure zone. Based on data from the European weather model, there is a 60–70% chance that a tropical disturbance or tropical depression could form in that region within four days.

Forecasters suggest that the public begin monitoring possible tropical weather systems starting August 10, as any formation could potentially influence regional weather patterns.

Note: All weather updates and forecasts should be based on the official information from the Central Weather Administration.
