Possible Typhoon Formation Being Monitored; Rain Expected Across Taiwan in the Coming Days

TAIWAN, July 10 — Chia Hsin, director of the Taiwan Integrated Disaster Prevention Engineering Technology Consulting Company, shared insights on social media regarding potential tropical weather activity and rainfall patterns over the next 10 days. While no typhoon has formed yet, conditions may become favorable for development in the western Pacific region.

According to Chia’s analysis, meteorologists are closely observing the area east of the Ryukyu Islands and off the eastern coast of the Philippines for signs of tropical system activity. These areas will be monitored more closely starting next Thursday, with a focus on possible developments into the following week.

Rainy Outlook Through Next Weekend

Taiwan is expected to be under the influence of southwesterly winds during the forecast period, bringing varying degrees of rainfall across the island.

  • From today through Friday, expect afternoon showers, particularly in northwestern Taiwan. On Thursday, localized showers are likely in northern Taipei and the western part of Keelung, with additional rain expected in most areas except Yilan later in the day.

  • Saturday will see brief rain showers along the coast south of Chiayi, while northern regions including Kaohsiung, Yilan, and Hualien may see afternoon rain.

  • On Sunday, the coastal regions south of Changhua may experience scattered showers, with mountainous areas across Taiwan also likely to see rainfall in the afternoon.

  • Monday brings rain to the western half and northern regions, including localized showers in Taichung, Yilan, and the mountainous regions south of Nantou.

  • Tuesday is expected to bring showers to areas south of Taichung and in the mountainous zones of Hsinchu and Miaoli. Rain is also possible in northern Taipei, Keelung, Yilan, and Hualien.

  • From Wednesday through Thursday, brief showers may occur late at night into the morning hours in areas south of Changhua, with afternoon rain affecting multiple regions.

  • Next Friday and Saturday, scattered rain is expected in coastal areas south of Changhua in the morning and south of Miaoli in the afternoon. Mountain regions from Hsinchu to Miaoli and the northern coast near Keelung are also likely to see brief showers.

Chia emphasized that while models show some consistency, weather predictions beyond five days carry significant uncertainty. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the Central Weather Administration (CWA) for official forecasts.
