DILG to Upgrade Emergency 911 System Nationwide for Faster Disaster Response
July 31, 2025
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced plans to upgrade the country’s Emergency 911 systems in a bid to ensure faster and more efficient response and coordination during emergencies.
According to DILG, the modernization of the 911 system is part of the agency’s efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and public safety across communities, especially in light of the frequent natural calamities the country faces.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping local government units (LGUs) with functional and responsive tools during times of disaster.
“We want LGUs to be already moving even before a typhoon hits. Preparedness should come before impact,” Remulla said.
In addition to the 911 upgrade, Secretary Remulla also urged all LGUs to regularly update their disaster preparedness plans, monitor critical waterways, and ensure that rescue equipment and personnel are ready ahead of any weather disturbance.
The initiative is part of DILG’s broader strategy to build disaster-resilient communities and improve the Philippines’ emergency response infrastructure.
