Rep. Barzaga: Speaker Romualdez Should Be First to Face Probe on Flood Control Controversy

MANILA, Philippines — Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has asserted that House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez should be the first to undergo investigation in connection with alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.

“If anyone should be investigated, the first person is House Speaker Martin Romualdez,” Barzaga said, stressing the need to hold top officials accountable amid the controversy.

Barzaga also clarified that his statements and his recent decision to withdraw from the National Unity Party (NUP) should not be misinterpreted. According to him, these moves were part of his stand as an independent minority member, not merely as part of a plot to unseat Romualdez.

The flood control projects have drawn attention following allegations of anomalies involving high-ranking officials. Barzaga maintained that his call for Romualdez’s inclusion in the probe was a matter of principle and accountability in government service.
