Rep. Leviste Urges DPWH to Reassign Batangas District Officials After Bribery Attempt

MANILA, Philippines — Batangas Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste has called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to implement a reshuffling of personnel in its Batangas district office following a reported bribery attempt involving a former district engineer.

Leviste said his appeal aims to cleanse the agency of corrupt officials and employees, particularly those allegedly involved in questionable projects.

The move comes after Engr. Abelardo Calalo, former Batangas District Engineer, was accused of attempting to bribe the lawmaker. While Calalo has denied the allegation, Leviste has remained firm in his claim.

According to Leviste, an evaluation is now underway to review the conduct of officials and staff in the district engineering office, especially those connected to flood control projects flagged for irregularities.

The congressman added that he has no plans to raise the matter before the House Committee on Public Works and Highways, noting that legal action has already been filed against Calalo.

Leviste assured the public that he will closely monitor the case to ensure accountability. “Those who are guilty must be held responsible,” he said.
