August 11, 2025 — Manila — Severe Tropical Storm Gorio (international name: Podul) has maintained its strength as it continues to move westward over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported in its 11:00 a.m. bulletin.
At 10:00 a.m., the storm’s center was located 1,170 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon (21.0°N, 133.1°E), packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center, gusts reaching up to 135 kph, and a central pressure of 985 hPa. Gorio is currently moving westward at 25 kph, with strong to storm-force winds extending up to 280 kilometers from its center.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are in effect over the Philippines at this time. However, PAGASA warned that a further southward shift in the forecast track could lead to the possible issuance of TCWS No. 1 over Extreme Northern Luzon.
While the storm is unlikely to directly affect the country in the next three days, Gorio is expected to cause moderate seas of up to 2.0 meters in coastal waters of Extreme Northern Luzon. Mariners, especially those operating small vessels and motor bancas, are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in these conditions if ill-equipped or inexperienced.
Track and Forecast
PAGASA projects Gorio to continue moving westward in the next 24 hours before turning west-northwestward from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday, and then shifting northwestward. The storm may make landfall over Taiwan’s eastern coast on Wednesday afternoon (August 13) before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) later that evening.
The weather bureau also stated that Gorio could intensify into a typhoon within the next 12 hours before gradually weakening in the latter part of the forecast period.
PAGASA urged the public, as well as disaster risk reduction and management offices, to prepare for possible impacts and follow instructions from local authorities, especially in areas prone to severe weather hazards.
The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 5:00 p.m. today.
