Taipei Ranks 14th in QS 2026 Best Student Cities Worldwide

TAIPEI — Taipei has earned a prestigious spot in the QS Best Student Cities 2026 rankings, landing at 14th place globally, its highest ranking to date. The list, compiled by global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), evaluates cities around the world based on how attractive they are to local and international students.

The ranking considers several key indicators: the quality of universities, student diversity, affordability, employer activity, desirability, and student feedback.

Taipei received an impressive overall score of 89.1, climbing from 26th in the previous year. Within Asia, it ranked 6th, behind Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Beijing.

Several of Taiwan’s top universities contributed to Taipei’s strong performance, including:

  • National Taiwan University (NTU) – ranked 63rd globally

  • National Tsing Hua University – ranked 176th

  • National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University – ranked 199th

The city was praised for its affordable cost of living, safe and efficient public transport, and welcoming, diverse environment for students. Many international students also cited Taipei’s “inclusiveness, friendliness, and vibrant student life” as key factors in their positive experience.

Aside from Taipei, four other Taiwanese cities also made it into the QS Top 150 Student Cities list:

  • Hsinchu – ranked 71st

  • Tainan – ranked 92nd

  • Taichung – ranked 113th

  • Taoyuan – ranked 130th

Taipei’s continued rise in the rankings highlights Taiwan’s growing reputation as a top destination for higher education and its commitment to providing an excellent environment for students from around the world.
