Taipei, September 12, 2025 — Motorcyclists in Taiwan can expect more savings as the government extends its excise tax reduction policy for motorcycles until December 31, 2030. The Ministry of Finance confirmed that it has amended Article 12-5 of the Commodity Tax Regulations, ensuring riders continue to enjoy cost-effective upgrades for years to come.
Under the revised policy, owners of motorcycles below 150cc that are at least four years old may trade in their vehicles for new ones and enjoy a NT$4,000 excise tax deduction. To qualify, the replacement motorcycle must be purchased and licensed within six months of retiring the old unit.
On top of this, buyers of new gasoline-powered motorcycles under 150cc are entitled to an additional NT$2,000 subsidy upon registration. This means that riders combining both benefits can save as much as NT$6,000 on their next motorcycle purchase.
Encouraging Safer and Greener Mobility
Officials highlighted that the extension aims not only to reduce financial burdens but also to encourage the use of more efficient and safer motorcycles. The initiative supports commuters, enthusiasts, and families seeking affordable upgrades while promoting improved fuel efficiency across the market.
SYM JET Celebrates Championship with Extra Discounts
Motorcycle manufacturer SYM also announced it will align with the government’s incentive by offering further purchase discounts on its JET series. The JET lineup, well-known for its strong performance in the Taiwan TSR Motorcycle Championship, has consistently defended its titles, boasting over 150 victories in recent years.
To mark its championship success, SYM will provide an extra NT$2,000 subsidy on selected JET models, including the JET SL and JET SL+ SuperC. This comes on top of government tax reductions, giving buyers more savings and flexible payment options such as 0% interest for 24-month installments. Customers may also avail of complimentary insurance or additional rebates, depending on the chosen model.
More Affordable Riding Ahead
With the government’s extended excise tax program and SYM’s added incentives, riders in Taiwan can look forward to more affordable upgrades. Whether for daily commuting or sport-inspired riding, the combined subsidies promise to make motorcycle ownership lighter on the wallet and smoother on the road.
