A tragic incident unfolded at Balabagan Trade School in Barangay Narra, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur, when a Grade 11 student allegedly shot and killed his teacher after receiving a failing mark in one of his subjects.
Authorities identified the victim as 34-year-old Danilo Barba, a teacher at the school. The suspect, known by the alias “Kaizer,” is a 20-year-old senior high school student.
According to Provincial Police Director Col. Caesar Cabuhat, the suspect admitted to committing the crime out of anger toward the victim, whom he blamed for his failing grade.
Police investigation revealed that at around 8:00 a.m., Barba was about to enter the school premises when the suspect confronted him, pointed a .45 caliber handgun at his head, and fired. The teacher died instantly from the gunshot wound.
After the shooting, the suspect fled and hid at the residence of relatives in Marogong. He later surrendered to authorities the following day with the assistance of his brother, who is a police officer.
The incident has caused fear within the school community, especially during the ongoing enrollment period. Investigators learned that other teachers had also failed the suspect, but he harbored resentment only toward Barba.
In response, security measures at the school have been heightened, with police and military personnel deployed to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The suspect is currently detained at the Balabagan Municipal Police Station and faces a murder charge. Police continue their investigation into the case.
