TAINAN, Taiwan — As Tainan continues its recovery from the impact of Typhoon Danas, an unexpected fire broke out this afternoon involving a mobile communications vehicle in Yanshui District, further complicating restoration efforts in the region.
At around 1:00 p.m., a Far EasTone Telecommunications mobile base station deployed in Huanya Village caught fire while providing temporary signal support. The incident occurred near Yong’an Temple, where the vehicle had been stationed to help restore mobile and internet services disrupted by the storm.
The Tainan City Fire Department received the alert at 1:42 p.m. and quickly dispatched two fire trucks and four personnel from the Yanshui Fire Brigade. Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle engulfed in flames. They promptly set up water lines and managed to fully extinguish the blaze within 15 minutes.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or individuals trapped inside the vehicle. However, initial assessments indicate that the telecommunications relay equipment inside sustained significant damage, which could potentially delay service restoration in the affected area.
Far EasTone had sent the vehicle to assist with ongoing repairs after widespread outages in Daxi and nearby areas left many without electricity, water, and internet access for several days. Power had only recently been restored, and efforts to rebuild telecommunications infrastructure were underway.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the equipment damage are still under investigation. Authorities are working with the company to determine how the incident may affect overall recovery operations.
