Tropical Cyclone Threat Looms as Two Typhoons and Potential Weather Systems Monitor PAR — PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines (July 23, 2025) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued its latest Tropical Cyclone Threat Potential Forecast on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, warning of ongoing and potential tropical cyclone activity in and around the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

WEEK 1: July 23–29, 2025

According to PAGASA, two active tropical cyclones are currently being monitored within the PAR:

  • Typhoon “Dante” is moving northward and is expected to track toward the Taiwan-Ryukyu area, possibly exiting the PAR in the coming days.

  • Meanwhile, Typhoon “Emong” has developed over the West Philippine Sea and is forecast to move toward the Bashi-Balintang Channel-Taiwan area, potentially bringing adverse weather to parts of Northern Luzon and nearby regions.

In addition, a Tropical Cyclone-Like Vortex (TCLV1) is expected to form over the eastern portion of PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Advisory Domain (TCAD). This weather system is likely to head northward toward Southern Japan, and PAGASA reports a high probability that it will intensify into a tropical cyclone.

WEEK 2: July 30–August 5, 2025

Looking ahead, PAGASA forecasts a new potential weather disturbance (TCLV2) that may emerge in the northern part of its monitoring domain. However, the probability of this system developing into a full-fledged tropical cyclone remains low. It may be a residual effect of Week 1’s tropical cyclone activities.

Due to the continuing presence of tropical systems, the overall Tropical Cyclone Threat Potential remains elevated for Week 1.

Advisory for the Public and Local Governments

PAGASA reminds the general public and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) to stay vigilant and monitor official updates, as these forecasts are subject to change depending on the movement and development of the weather systems.

Forecast updates are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, ensuring that the public receives timely and accurate information.
