KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan — July 7 — As Typhoon Danas continues to lash southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung City has experienced widespread effects, including powerful winds, heavy rainfall, and disruptions in transportation and daily activities. The strongest wind gusts in the city are estimated at levels 9 to 10, with coastal areas experiencing gusts over level 12. In the mountainous zones, accumulated rainfall may reach up to 490 mm, triggering alerts for possible landslides and flooding.
Among the incidents reported, a 29-year-old motorcyclist surnamed Weng was injured late last night after swerving to avoid a fallen tree. The accident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on July 6 along Zhonghua 4th Road near Qingnian 2nd Road. Weng lost control of his motorcycle while maneuvering around the obstruction and suffered bruises and abrasions. Police and firefighters quickly responded and transported him to a hospital. He is currently in stable condition.
🌪️ Widespread Impact Across Kaohsiung
In various districts across the city, strong winds uprooted trees, ripped down awnings, and damaged storefronts. In Sanmin District, multiple awnings on Sanfeng Middle Street were torn loose and left hanging dangerously over shop entrances. City workers cleared debris overnight to ensure public safety.
Due to hazardous wind speeds reaching the threshold for suspension, Kaohsiung City Government canceled all work and classes on July 7 and issued public advisories regarding transportation and services.
