Typhoon Danas Disrupts Transportation and Daily Activities Across Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung City, July 5, 2025 – As Typhoon Danas approaches Taiwan, a land typhoon warning was officially issued last night, prompting widespread precautionary measures across Kaohsiung City. With heavy rainfall forecasted for the southern region, the local government has suspended classes for the day and implemented major changes in the city’s transportation system.

🚫 Transportation Disruptions and Safety Measures

The Kaohsiung MRT has modified its operating schedule, with trains running every 15 minutes and every 20 minutes during late-night hours. Train speeds may be further reduced or halted depending on weather conditions. The Light Rail Transit (LRT) will run at 20-minute intervals until noon, with updates to be announced for the afternoon. Elevated and ground-level MRT sections, as well as the entire LRT line, may operate at reduced speeds or be suspended entirely due to high winds.

Ferry services between Cijin and Gushan, and Qianzhen and Zhongzhou, will run intermittently based on wind and rain conditions. Meanwhile, Taiwan Railway will maintain its morning schedule but may adjust in the afternoon depending on the typhoon’s intensity.

The Kaohsiung Transportation Bureau has opened 305 temporary parking areas across the city for public use. In addition, all roadside and public off-street parking lots will waive parking fees today. Parking on red and yellow lines is temporarily allowed until 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, but the public is reminded not to block traffic or park under trees for safety reasons.

🚌 Bus and YouBike Operations Affected

City bus services will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. today under a typhoon-adjusted schedule. If wind speeds exceed level 7, or if road conditions deteriorate, all mountain and tourist bus routes will be suspended. Remote-area yellow bus routes will also be fully suspended. Drivers may still pick up passengers if deemed safe, using a “hail and stop” method.

Residents are encouraged to check the Kaohsiung City Bus Status System or call the bus operator before heading out.

All YouBike services in Kaohsiung are completely suspended today. Operations will resume only when weather conditions improve.

✈️ Airport and Airline Announcements

Siaogang Airport is experiencing widespread disruptions. UNI Air and China Airlines have cancelled all domestic flights for the day. On the international front, EVA Air has called off all Kaohsiung-bound flights, while China Airlines has either cancelled or adjusted numerous routes. Travelers are urged to confirm flight statuses with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport.

  • Provincial Highway No. 20 (0K–44K: Meishankou to Xiangyang)
