Typhoon Danas Forces Early Closures of Shopping Malls in Southern Taiwan

July 6, 2025 – Taiwan — As Typhoon Danas intensifies into a medium-strength storm with an expanding radius, southern regions of Taiwan are now on high alert. In response to worsening weather conditions, several local governments have announced the suspension of work and classes beginning this evening.

In line with safety precautions, major department store chains Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and Far Eastern SOGO have announced early closures of selected southern branches.


Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Announces Early Closures

Shin Kong Mitsukoshi confirmed that six of its locations south of Chiayi will be closing early at 4:30 p.m. today, July 6. The affected branches include:

  • Chiayi Chuiyang Branch

  • Tainan Zhongshan Branch

  • Tainan Xintiandi Branch

  • Kaohsiung Zuoying Branch

  • Kaohsiung Sanduo Branch

  • SKM Park Outlets Kaohsiung Caoya

The company also encouraged customers to take advantage of its online platforms during the typhoon, stating:
“For everyone’s safety, we recommend using the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi app or SKM Online for convenient shopping from home.”


Far Eastern SOGO Also Closes Early

Similarly, Far Eastern SOGO announced that its Kaohsiung branch will also close at 4:30 p.m. due to the approaching typhoon. Other store locations remain under observation, depending on further developments.


Public Urged to Stay Safe

With the storm’s intensity increasing and rain and wind expected to worsen into the night, authorities and businesses are taking precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors, monitor official updates, and avoid non-essential travel.

Typhoon Danas marks the first major storm to directly impact Taiwan this year, prompting heightened preparedness measures throughout the island.
