Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued warnings as Typhoon Podul approaches the island, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall.
As of the latest forecast, Podul is moving northwest at a steady pace, with its eye expected to pass close to or make landfall in northern Taiwan within the next 24 to 36 hours. Meteorologists warn that the storm’s intensity may increase before it reaches the island.
The CWA forecasts wind speeds reaching up to 162 kilometers per hour near the storm’s center, with torrential rain likely in northern and eastern regions. Low-lying areas are at risk of flooding, and mountainous regions face potential landslides.
Authorities are advising residents to secure loose outdoor items, stock up on emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary travel. Schools and offices in certain high-risk areas may suspend operations depending on the storm’s progress.
Fishermen and coastal communities are urged to take precautions as rough seas and dangerous waves are expected. The CWA will continue to monitor the storm and issue updates as it develops.
