VP Duterte Opposes Unrestricted Online Gambling, Citing Harm to Youth and FamiliesV

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed firm opposition to unregulated online gambling, warning of its damaging effects on Filipino families and the future of the youth.

While acknowledging the need for proper regulation of gambling activities, Duterte said she does not support making gambling easily accessible through the internet.
“But if you put it online where we can’t control who can open an account to gamble, I am not in favor of that because it destroys families and the future of the youth,” she said.

Her remarks underscore growing concerns over online gambling platforms, which have become more prevalent and accessible in recent years. Duterte emphasized that any move to allow digital gambling must come with strict safeguards to prevent access by minors and vulnerable individuals.

The Vice President’s stance aligns with broader public apprehension about the social risks posed by online gambling, particularly among younger Filipinos. She believes that without proper control measures, the accessibility of online betting platforms could lead to long-term social issues, including addiction and family breakdown.

As the national debate on gambling regulation continues, Duterte’s position sends a strong message on the importance of protecting Filipino families from the dangers of online gambling.
