Water Outage to Affect 6,600 Households in Miaoli and Hsinchu on September 11

September 7, 2025 – Hsinchu, Taiwan

The Taiwan Water Corporation’s Third District Office announced that maintenance work will be carried out on September 11 at two key booster stations, affecting thousands of households in parts of Miaoli County and Hsinchu City.

The project involves replacing power supply equipment at the Dingpu Booster Station and repairing the switchboard at the Zhongdapu Booster Station. As a result, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., approximately 6,600 households will face either water cuts or reduced water pressure. Officials noted that the works will temporarily lower water supply by 16,000 tons.

Areas Affected

  • Zhunan Township, Miaoli County: Dapuli, Dingpuli, Gongyili, Qidingli, Dongqiding, Fenglikeng, Xiangsilin, and Qijiao — around 5,700 households.

  • Xiangshan District, Hsinchu City: Nangang Street and approximately 900 households along Sections 5 and 6 of Zhonghua Road, where low water pressure is expected.

Advice for Residents

The water company urged households to store water in advance, recommending that storage be completed six hours before the outage to prevent last-minute surges in demand, which could leave some pipelines short of supply.

Residents were also advised to:

  • Turn off water pumps during the outage to prevent overheating and potential fire hazards.

  • Close shutoff valves if water inlets are located below ground level.

  • Avoid submerging rubber hose-connected faucets in water to prevent siphonage and contamination risks.

Officials emphasized that the maintenance is necessary to stabilize local water pressure and improve supply reliability. If severe weather or unforeseen conditions delay the project, the work schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

The Water Corporation reminded the public that practicing water safety measures will help ensure both supply efficiency and hygiene during the service interruption.
