New Taipei City, September 15, 2025 — A shocking workplace accident occurred earlier today in Yingge District, New Taipei City, when a 46-year-old construction worker surnamed Lin was struck on the head by a falling steel bar. The impact pierced through his safety helmet and into his skull, yet he miraculously remained conscious and with a heartbeat when first responders arrived.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. at a construction site on Fengming Road. Authorities said Lin had been organizing materials on the ground floor when a steel bar, for reasons still under investigation, fell from above and hit him with full force. The rod punctured the back-right side of his head, causing him to collapse immediately.
Police and firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. Despite the severity of his injuries, Lin was still responsive when rescuers arrived. He was immediately transported by site staff and emergency personnel to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Banqiao, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Investigators are now looking into how the steel bar fell, while the labor department has been notified to review workplace safety measures at the site.
